Word Watching: The Power of Words and the Wisdom to Use Them Well

Your words shape worlds. Speak healing, not harm. Grace-filled words don’t just bless others—they unlock favor for you. Choose wisely.

One of the most important things in this life that we will participate in everyday are the words that we speak. Words are much more than just the linguistic verbal vibrational sounds of communication. Words are the essence, spirit, emotion and energy that carry our thoughts while monitoring the impact of its destination.

Words have the power to hurt, to heal, to humble, to empower, to belittle, to open doors, to stir hope, to vanquish expectancy, as well as the power to invoke the action and effort of love.

Like a loaded weapon, words are powerful. If we are not careful with our words we can cause damage that we never intended to happen. We are reminded in the scriptures that in the same way a great forest is set on fire by a small spark, so too the small tongue can set the course of our life on fire.

If we’re honest about it, it is easy to use our tongue to shoot fire at others when we find ourselves, angry, upset, or offended. Rather than speaking ungodly things when you’re heated, remember the scriptures teach us that the heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking. My friends remember, you are the fragrance of God. Let your words be tactful, yet filled with grace. Let your words be few, yet strategically impactful. Let your words be truthful yet laced with love. Don’t let your words be the fire that burns bridges to God-ordained relationships. Don’t let your words be the fire that consumes your favor, making it hard for you to prosper in the places that you’re supposed to.

According to healthline.com, Honey and its comb are edible and offer numerous health benefits, such as fighting infections and improving heart health. The honeycomb also boosts liver functionality. Alex, why is this important? In the scriptures, it says that gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. When you speak gracious words, you are helping others fight the infectious disease of doubt. When you speak graciously to someone, you are helping them to fight the infection of unforgiveness so that their heart may function the way God intended it. When you speak gracious words, you are helping someone fight the infection of negativity, while boosting the functionality of hope.

In the body the liver has an over 500 functionalities. One of those functions is Detoxification. Your liver filters blood, breaks down harmful substances, and releases them from the body. When you speak healing and hope to others, you are helping them to break down the harmful substances of fear, worry, and anxiety. Your honeycomb-dipped words are literally helping people release those things from their spirit.

In 1994, Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese scientist, conducted a science experiment to study the effects that the power of words would have on the structure of water. In his experiments, Emoto exposed water to positive and negative, where people would speak to jars of water with something either positive or negative. He then froze the water and examined the crystals under a microscope. He found that water exposed to positive words and intentions formed symmetrical, beautiful crystalline structures when frozen, while water exposed to negative words and intentions formed disorganized, asymmetrical structures that looked diseased.

The scripture tells us that you and I are jars of clay. Remember that what you speak to others will crystalize to either something beautiful & divine or promote disease and dysfunction. Just as Solomon tells us, A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. Don’t use your words to give someone a piece of your mind. Don’t use your words to break someone’s spirit, but rather, use your words to give life to their spirit. Use your words to promote life.

When we do this, I believe that you will find yourself in a place of unfamiliar favor, where your healing will break forth, doors will open, and God will put you in position to succeed in all you do!
